The Essentials class will be broken into four 4-hour blocks.
Students will be divided into four groups and rotate through the

Ropes and Knots Chapter 6 |
Students will learn different types of ropes and
their usage, along with rope construction and materials.
The proper care, inspection record keeping, and storage of fire
service ropes are also discussed. Several
types of knots used in the fire service will be described as well.
Also methods for hoisting tools and equipment are reviewed. |

Ventilation
Chapter 10 |
Students will learn the
basics of ventilation operations, the advantages of proper ventilation,
and considerations for deciding if and where to ventilate.
Also vertical and horizontal ventilation, natural and forced
ventilation procedures. |

Ground Ladders
Chapter 9 |
Students will learn basic parts and terms that are
common to most ladders. The
various types of ladders in use by the fire service.
The proper care, carrying, deployment, and use of fire service
ground ladders. |

Water Supply
Chapter 11 |
Students will learn
principles of municipal water supply systems an the methods of moving
water throughout the system. They
will learn the components of hydrants, and will learn about alternative
water supplies, and methods of moving water from the source to the fire by
water shuttles and relay pumping. |

Extrication Awareness and Operational |
Classroom presentations cover vehicle extrication
safety considerations, scene safety systems, vehicle stabilization and
patient packaging. Also
includes hands on field presentation and practice of vehicle
stabilization, extrication techniques using a wide range of basic tools
through power hydraulic extrication tools and patient packaging. |

West Wendover Live Fire Training Trailer |
Students will experience real live fire training in
the safety of a controlled setting. This
will take place in a computer-controlled live fire prop provided by the
West Wendover Fire Department, Wendover, Nevada. |

Thermal Imaging

Students will learn how to utilize Thermal Imaging
equipment on emergency scenes. |

Haz-Mat For First Responders Operational Level |
The students will be trained to meet the
competencies for first responders at the Operational level as specified in
NFPA 472. They will spend time
in the classroom as well as hands on scenarios.
This is a full 24-hour class and is a requirement for Firefighter I
certification. |

This class will give you the first 16 hours of a 32
hour course that is required by the wild land Firefighter I and II

Fire Apparatus and Pump Maintenance |
The students will gain an understanding of basic
pump theory and will learn to recognize and understand the principles of
accessories such as primers, ball valves, etc.

deficiencies needing attention and/or repairs |
